Kimball I. Maull MD, FACS
Dr. Maull is Adjunct Professor of Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and Immediate Past Director of the Trauma Service at Hamad General Hospital, Doha, State of Qatar. He recently served as a Senior Scientist at the University of Alabama at Birmingham’s Injury Control Research Center. He also has served as the Director of the Division of Trauma and Emergency Medical Services for Loyola University - Chicago and is the Past Director of the Maryland Institute for Emergency Medical Services Systems(Shock Trauma Center) in Baltimore.Prior to these posts, he was Chairman of the Department of Surgery at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville for nine years. He has held numerous teaching and committee assignments in the EMS and trauma field.
Dr. Maull is the Founding President of the Eastern Association for the Surgery of Trauma(EAST) and Past President of the American Trauma Society, the Association for the Advancement of Automotive Medicine and the Panamerican Trauma Society. He is a Senior Reviewer for the American College of Surgeons, Committee on Trauma and has extensive experience in EMS and trauma system design. Dr. Maull served as the Medical Co-Director for the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHSTA) and U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) National EMT-B Standard Curriculum Project (1990-94) and was a member of the first Advisory Committee for the CDC’s Center for Injury Prevention and Control. He has received several awards including Fellow of the Association for the Advancement of Automotive Medicine (for significant and sustained contributions to traffic injury control), the Trauma Achievement Award and the Advanced Trauma Life Support Meritorious Service Award, both given by the American College of Surgeons, and the Curtic Arzt Medallion from the American Trauma Society. He has written over 200 scientific publications and made over 450 professional presentations in the fields of trauma surgery and injury control.
Raed Tayyem , MB BS, MRCS, MRes, FRCS
Dr. Tayyem is an upper GI, bariatric and laparoscopic surgeon at The Ayr Teaching Hospital and a fellow of the Royal Colleges of Surgeon in Great Britain and Ireland. He is a graduate of the College of Medicine at the University of Jordan, Jordan. He completed his internship in affiliation with the Ministry of Health hospitals in Jordan, residency in general surgery at the Ministry of Health hospitals in Jordan and advanced laparoscopic upper GI and bariatric surgery fellowship in Whittington Hospital, London, UK.
Dr. Tayyem holds a master degree in research and another degree in postgraduate medical education. He has contributed to over 50 peer reviewed scientific articles and professional national and international presentations in the fields of general, upper GI and bariatric surgery. Dr. Tayyem main interests are benign upper GI conditions, laparoscopic bariatric surgery and its impact on quality of life.
